    Q:
What steps should be followed when removing the Timing Chain,Timing Sprocket and camshaft on Chevrolet Nova? Posted by Customer
    A:
This is where the following procedure is followed starting from the third step right up to the eleventh ,but the tenth step is excluded. On pre-1974 small-block VB models, first temporarily unbolt and on some models remove the oil pan. First, you have to take out the fan belt, the fan, as well as the pulley, then the fan shroud. And if the camshaft is to be removed, work on the radiator is compulsory as well to be done. Then unbolt the accessory drive pulley and then go on and un-bolt the torsional damper retaining bolt. With a suitable puller, unscrew the torsional damper, it is very important to note that only a puller that pulls on the hub of the damper is allowed. Go on and take out the water pump. In small-block VS fasten the crankcase front cover plate according to the instructions and then loosen the bolts and disconnect the cover. For big-block VS, unscrew the front cover bolts to loosen the front cover so that you can strip the attaching screws and then using your hands pull the cover slightly forward in order to sever the oil pan front seal so that it is right up against the block at both the left and the right ends, following this, you can then fully remove the front cover. Tighten the crankshaft until the camshaft and the crankshaft sprockets are aligned and then unbolt the three camshaft sprocket bolts. With the soft-faced mallet, tap off the camshaft sprocket, and with your fingers, take off the timing chain. If required the crankshaft sprocket can be removed using a puller so chosen that is suitable for the application. If the engine is installed, remove both of the front mount through bolts and the right engine stand, then lower the engine on the frame. Pry out the two centre bolts and the one lower bolt which holds the hood catch support to the grille and radiator support in order to have room for the removal of camshaft. If it has not been done earlier, extract the fuel pump and also the pushrod present in the car. While doing this, care should be taken to avoid any form of impact or rough handling of the camshaft journals and cam peaks and when withdrawing this camshaft, it should be pulled out slowly, and supported in two different points in order to ensure that the cam lobes and the distributor gear do not cut or groove the camshaft bearings which are available in the camshaft block. This can be done through the installment of two, 5/16 inch - 18 x 4 inch bolts through the sprocket flange holes then tighten them in equal intervals to create a motion of the camshaft.

    Q:
What specific steps should be followed for small-block VB for the 1986 Chevrolet Nova? Posted by Customer
    A:
Ensure the block and crankcase front cover are clean, remove any protruding oil pan gasket material with a sharp knife, and apply a 1/8 inch bead of RTV sealant at the oil pan and block joint as well as the front lip of the oil pan. Coat the cover gasket with a non-setting sealant, position it on the cover, and loosely install the cover, starting with the top four bolts and then two 11 inch - 20 x 1/2 inch screws at the lower cover holes. Apply RTV sealant on the bottom of the cover, install it, and tighten the screws alternately and evenly while aligning the dowel pins. Remove the two 1/4 inch - 20 x 1/2 inch screws and install the remaining cover screws.

How should the camshaft be mounted for measurement for the 1987 Chevrolet Nova? Posted by Customer
    A:
The camshaft should be mounted on V-blocks.
