- A:Start by loosening the wheel lug nuts and raising the rear of the vehicle on jack stands. Remove the wheels and then loosen the equalizer nut to slacken the cables. Disconnect the cable to be replaced from the equalizer. Next, remove the brake drum from the axle flange and the brake shoe assembly far enough to disconnect the cable end from the parking brake lever. Finally, depress the tangs on the cable housing retainer and push the housing and cable through the backing plate.Posted by GMPartsGiant Specialist

- A:To remove the rear cables, first loosen the wheel lug nuts and then raise the back of the car on jack stands. Then, take off the wheels and loosen the equalizer nut to slacken the cables. Disconnect wire from equalizer that you want to replace. Finally, locate and release tangs on cable housing retainer; push them through backing plate; then, pull housing and cable out through rear of plate. To install rear cable reverse removal procedure including adjusting cable as necessary. For front cable, start by raising vehicle and supporting it securely on jackstands.
