To install the shift cable, follow the reverse steps of removal and perform the shift cable adjustment before securing the cable. To adjust the shift cable, apply the parking brake and block the wheels. Raise the vehicle and secure it on jackstands. Under the vehicle, pry the cable end from the transmission control lever stud and remove any retaining clips securing the cable. Place the transmission in Neutral and ensure the gear selector on the steering column is also in Neutral. While pulling the cable tight, pry the white colored body-core adjuster locking tab out from its locked position. Ensure the body-core adjuster moves freely by pulling on the cable. Make sure the gear selector and shift lever are still in Neutral and install the cable end onto the transmission manual control lever. Push the white colored locking tab into the body core until it snaps. Route the cable and install the cable retaining clips. Check the adjustment by ensuring all gears can be selected and the engine can only start in Park or Neutral. If necessary, readjust the shift cable or the Park/Neutral switch. Finally, place the gear selector in Park and lower the vehicle. Test drive to check for proper operation.

To remove the shift cable, start by disconnecting the cable from the negative terminal of the battery.
