Remove the screw and washer securing it to the transmission, and pull it up to disconnect it from the link at the end.

To inspect the cable, remove the engine cover and have the engine running at idle speed with the selector lever in Neutral. Set the parking brake and block the wheels for safety. With an assistant applying the brake pedal, grab the inner cable a few inches behind where it attaches to the throttle linkage and pull it forward. It should slide smoothly through the cable housing without any binding or jerky operation. When released, it should return to its original location with the cable slop against the cable terminal.

When servicing the accelerator cable, the following considerations are important:The retainer must be installed with the tangs secured over the head of the stud.The conduit fitting at both ends of the cable must have its locking tangs expanded and locked in the attaching holes.The braided portion of the accelerator cable must not come in contact with the front of the dash sealer during assembly, repair, or replacement.Flexible components must not be routed within two inches of the moving parts of the accelerator linkage outboard of the support bracket unless the routing is positively controlled.

Place a new seal in the transmission case hole.
