To remove wiper blades, press down on blade and release spring for the first type blade, depress the press-type release lever and slide off the wiper arm pin for the second type blade, and insert a screwdriver under spring and push downward on screwdriver to raise spring for the third type blade. To install blades to the arm, insert blade over pin at top of arm and press until spring retainer engages groove in pin.

Polycarbonate refills have a locking device, and Tridon® refills require removing the wiper blade by twisting counterclockwise. Follow the manufacturer's instructions closely and ensure all frame jaws are engaged to avoid scratching the glass during wiper operation.

Removal of the wiper arms requires the use of a special tool, G.M. J-8966 or equivalent, which is generally available in auto parts stores. Insert the tool or a screwdriver under the wiper arm and pry the arm off the shaft, being careful not to scratch the paint. Disconnect the Washer Pump hose from the arm (if so equipped) and remove the arm. To install, position the arm over the shaft and press down, making sure to install the arms in the same position on the windshield as they were when they were removed. Raising the hood on most later models will facilitate easier wiper arm removal.
