How do you remove and install the lower control arm and spring on Buick Century? Posted by Customer
    A:
Lifting the front of the vehicle, replace the wheel with the one that was removed and also disconnected and removed the shock absorber. Subsequently, you have to take off the front stabilizer rod link from the lower control arm as well as sever the brake reaction rod from the lower control arm. Wear safety gloves while placing a jack on stroke about 1/2 inch away from the side of the car. Below the lower ball joint stud 13mm remove the ball stud cotter pin and loosen the nut about 1/8 inch. (3mm) without removing it. Snap the steering knuckle near the stud or use the ball joint removal tool to pry the stud off the knuckle. Once the stud is free lift the jack underneath the control arm, unscrew the nut that holds the steering knuckle to the tapered stud, and remove the steering knuckle. Slowly lower the jack till the spring detachment from the control arm and in case you have to, use the pry-bar, to remove the spring from the lower control arm seat. After this you have to remove the spring after removing this then you have to remove the lower control arm by unscrewing the locknut that holds it to the frame. For installation, when placing the spring on 1984-87 models, position the bottom end into one of the two drilled holes of the lower control arm and leave the other hole empty with flat of the spring up and straight with helical coils downward. Reverse the remaining steps for installation and tighten the control arm frame bolts to the specified settings: 1975-76 being at 9 ft. lbs. (12 Nm), 1977 at 125 f-lb : The new at 1978-87 170 Nm, and the others at 95 ft. lbs. The maximum available torque of 129 Nm can be delivered with the vehicle grounded.
