    Q:
How do you remove and install the latch assembly on Pontiac Fiero? Posted by Customer
    A:
When removing the latch assembly it is necessary to remove the trim panel first, and then the water deflector second. Remove the inside rearview mirror and unhook the remote handle lock rod from the lock cylinder to latch rod at the lock assembly as the spring clips are used to connect the rods and rods to levers and handles respectively, and have a slot to allow their disconnection. In the event the vehicle has a door ajar switch electrical lead in the door, remove the switch from the latch assembly before continuing. Subsequently, depress the latch assembly, undo the latch assembly screws and take the latch assembly out together with the outside handle lock rod. In installation, the placement of spring clips should be done on the new latch assembly, followed by its positioning and the instalment of the lock rods. Bolt the latch assembly in place using the mounting screws which should be tightened to the recommended torque. If the vehicle is equipped with a door mounted do-a-jar switch install the electrical lead and check the operation of the door ajar switch before reinstalling the water deflector and the door trim panel.
