Raise the rear of the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands placed underneath the frame rails, while blocking the front wheels to prevent rolling. Although it isn't necessary to remove the rear wheels, doing so will enhance access to the shock absorbers. Support the rear axle with a floor jack positioned under the axle tube closest to the shock absorber being removed. Proceed to remove the upper and lower mounting fasteners of the shock absorber, including the upper mounting bolts (one may not be visible) and the lower mounting bolt/nut. After removing the shock absorber, installation follows the reverse order of removal, ensuring that all fasteners are tightened to the specified torque values.

Inspect the driveaxle boots for tears, cracks, and loose clamps, as they protect the CV joints from dirt and water. Any signs of damage or leaking lubricant necessitate replacement.

Finally, install the wheels and lug nuts, lower the vehicle, and tighten the lug nuts to the specified torque.

Park the vehicle on level ground, turn off the engine, and set the parking brake while checking tire pressures. Push down on one corner of the vehicle and release it; it should stop moving and rest level within one or two bounces. If it continues to move or fails to return to its original position, the shock absorber may be worn or weak.

Reverse the removal procedure, ensuring to assemble the insulators and plastic pilot ring in the same orientation as during removal, tighten the damper shaft nut to the specified torque, raise the control arm with the floor jack to simulate normal ride height, and then tighten the lower mounting bolt/nut to the specified torque.

Proceed to remove the upper and lower mounting fasteners of the shock absorber, including the upper mounting bolts (one may not be visible) and the lower mounting bolt/nut.
