    Q:
How to check the Shock Absorber? Posted by Customer
    A:
For worn or damaged components, such as the steering linkage and suspension, tire wear may become excessive and stiff, poor riding quality, less fuel economy, and compromised vehicle handling are among the effects. To check the struts and the shock absorbers you should: park the vehicle on a level surface; switch off the engine; put on parking brakes. Push down at each corner of the vehicle several times to determine if it stops moving and returns to a level position within one or two bounces. A continuous movement or failure to return to its original position may indicate that shock absorbers are worn out or weak. Repeat this check at each corner of the vehicle. Raise the vehicle to inspect for signs of fluid leakage or damage in both struts and shocks. Ensure that they are securely mounted and undamaged; replace them as a set if necessary. Visually inspect steering and suspension components for any damage, distortion, oil leaks or worn seals, boots, bushings. Check for movement at steering knuckle-to-control arm ball joint by examining control arm bushings. If there is any movement here you should replace the balljoint. Finally push and pull on front tires to look for play in steering system components; inspect tie-rod ends for looseness or wear.

    Q:
How should the strut assembly be reassembled for the 2015 Chevrolet Traverse? Posted by Customer
    A:
Lightly lubricate the strut rod and bumpers with silicone oil or white lithium grease. Then, install the lower spring seat, bump stop, dust boot, spring, and upper mount seat in that order.

    A:
Check the shock body for leaking fluid, dents, cracks, and other damage. Check the coil spring for chips or cracks in the spring coating and inspect the spring seat for cuts, hardness, and deterioration.
