To inspect the brakes, start by loosening the wheel lug nuts and raising the vehicle on jackstands. Remove the brake caliper, suspending it out of the way with wire. Visually inspect the disc surface for score marks and damage, checking both sides. If deep scoring is present, the disc needs to be removed and refinished. To check disc runout, reinstall the lug nuts and use a dial indicator to measure any deviation from the specified limit. If necessary, have the disc refinished by a machine shop. Ensure the disc thickness is not below the minimum specified thickness. To remove the disc, remove the caliper mounting bracket or caliper and the disc retaining screw. When installing the new disc, wire-brush the backside and clean the hub face. Apply high-temperature anti-seize around the hub and raised center portion. Install the disc and tighten the retaining screw. Install the caliper mounting bracket or caliper and tighten the bolts. Lower the vehicle, tighten the lug nuts, and depress the brake pedal to bring the pads into contact with the disc. Check the brakes carefully before driving the vehicle.
