    Q:
How do you remove and install Door Lock on Cadillac ElDorado? Posted by Customer
    A:
To remove and install the lock striker on 1990 Deville and Fleetwood, first make a pencil mark at the position of the lock striker on the body lock pillar and then remove the lock striker by inserting tool J-23457, BT-7107 or equivalent under the lock striker. During installation position the striker in the recommended position according to the pencil lines and then tighten the bolt to Tw:42 ft. lbs. (55 Nm). In the event of adjustment, make sure that the door is level, apply modeling clay on the lock bolt aperture, shut the door halfway and make an impression on the striker, and then adjust it as and where possible. To disassemble the inside remote handle, it is necessary to first remove the door panel and the water deflector; then by using a drill, one has to drill the rivets and after this the handle has to be slid rearwards to take it off. For mounting, just insert the tabs into the respective slots and fasten with the help of rivets. To make some changes on the power door lock actuator, the door panel and water deflector need to be detached and linkage disconnected, and rivets must be drilled and the actuator is then taken out. To assemble, fasten the actuator using the rivet nuts and perform test operation. In its preparation for the door lock assembly, one has to first remove the water deflector, door panel, and disconnect all the rods and lastly reverse the tab to unlock the lock. Mount a new service lock having a block-out plug 'ON'; place the door ajar switch; lock it. For the outside handle, make sure that the door glass is in the uppermost position, then thereafter, the door panel/ water deflector is to be removed, the handle rod disconnected, the wiring connector is to be disconnected together with the removal of the retaining screws. Treating the handle with needed care set and tighten the screws to 54 inch lbs. (7 Nm). Again for the lock cylinder, extend the door glass fully up, pop out the door panel and water deflector, disconnect the rod, pull out the wire connector and unscrew the lock cylinder retainer. Set a gasket over the lock cylinder and then replace the cylinder and the retainer. For 1991-93 models, the lock striker, inside remote handle, outside handle, and lock cylinder should be installed in the same manner, while being tightened and screwed in place with the correct fasteners. During the installation of the door lock actuator in couple, sedan, and rear doors one has to first remove the door panel and water deflector; the actuator harness has to be disconnected; the rivet has to be drilled out and the actuator has to be installed with rivets. As for 1990-91 Eldorado and Seville, the similar procedures for the lock striker, inside remote handle, lock actuator and lock assembly should be demanded to be installed and operated correctly. On 1992-98 Eldorado and Seville, and 1994-98 Deville, locate the striker position, then, take out the striker and bolts, assemble the striker and finally insert it to place with the proper torque. The same process should be followed for inside remote handle and lock actuator and lock assembly so that all coming parts are connected and fixed properly. For the outside handle and lock cylinder, the door glass should be fully up; the necessary components should be removed and properly fitted.
