How do you remove the shift lever on Chevrolet Blazer,S10,GMC Jimmy and Sonoma? Posted by Customer

To remove the shift lever knob, start by turning the shift lever knob locknut clockwise to loosen it. Once loosened, remove the shift lever knob and nut from the shift lever. If your vehicle has a floor console, you will need to remove it before proceeding. Remove the boot retainer screws and the boot. Next, back off the shift lever nut and unscrew and remove the shift lever. To install the shift lever, start by installing the shift lever nut without tightening it yet. Then, install the shift lever and back the nut up against the lever, tightening it securely. Install the boot and, if applicable, the retainer, and tighten the boot retaining screws securely. Finally, install the shift lever knob and its locknut. Screw on the knob until it stops, then back it off to align the shift pattern on the knob. Back the nut up against the underside of the knob and tighten it securely.

Raise the front of the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Remove the transfer case skid plate, if equipped. Remove the front driveshaft. Use a small screwdriver to release the control rod at each end. Remove the control rod. Remove the knob from the lever by putting a wrench under the knob and tapping it off with a hammer. Remove the three bezel screws and remove the bezel. Remove the four lever bolts and lift out the lever assembly. Installation is the reverse of removal.
