Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. For 2007 and earlier models, remove the steering wheel, unscrew the tilt lever from the column, and remove the ignition lock cylinder. Next, remove the column lower cover fasteners, slide the end of the cover down and in, unhook the cover from the front, and remove it. Then, remove the upper cover fasteners and take off the cover, with installation being the reverse of removal. For 2008 and later models, start by removing the knee bolster retaining screws and the knee bolster. After that, remove the mounting fasteners from the lower steering column covers, press in on the sides of the lower covers to disengage the clips from the upper cover, and separate the two covers. To remove the upper column cover, use a trim removal tool to separate the column cover flexible extension from the instrument cluster trim panel and then remove the upper cover, with installation being the reverse of removal.
