How to remove, inspect, and install rocker arms and hydraulic lash adjusters in 3.6L V6 engine on Buick Enclave? Posted by Customer
    A:
Removal involves removing the valve covers and the camshafts to remove the rockers is the lash adjuster socket on the rocker. Place markings on each rocker arm to ensure they are returned to the same position, then lift each one from the engine. Once the rocker arms are removed, the hydraulic lash adjusters can be lifted from the cylinder head. It is important that any rocker arms or lash adjusters being used again must be returned to their original position on the engine. Inspection involves checking each rocker arm for wear, cracks and other damage, especially where the valve stems contact the rocker arm. Check the rollers for binding and roughness. If the bearings are worn or damaged, replacement of the entire rocker arm will be necessary. Keep in mind that there is no valve adjustment on these engines, so excessive wear or damage in the valve train can easily result in excessive valve clearance, which in tum will cause valve noise when the engine is running. Make sure the oil passage hole in each hydraulic lash adjuster is not blocked. Installation involves applying some camshaft/lifter prelu be to the pivot pockets, roller and the slot that contacts the valve on each rocker arm. Apply clean engine oil into the bores for the hydraulic lash adjusters and install them into the cylinder head. Position the rocker arms onto the lash adjusters. The remainder of installation is the reverse of removal. Before starting and running the engine, change the oil and install a new oil filter.

    Q:
How do you remove and reinstall Pushrod and rocker arm in 3.4L V6 engine on Chevrolet Equinox? Posted by Customer
    A:
To remove the components, first disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Next, remove the valve cover(s). Starting at the drivebelt end of one cylinder head, remove the rocker arm mounting bolts one at a time and detach the rocker arms, pivot balls, and pedestals, ensuring to keep each set of rocker arm components separately stored in marked plastic bags for proper reinstallation. The rocker arms have a pedestal mount captured by a metal sleeve inside, and while components can be separated by tapping the bolt out of the pedestal, they typically remain as an assembly. Remove the pushrods and store them separately to avoid mixing them up during installation, using a perforated cardboard box for organization and labeling the front end of the engine. Inspect each rocker arm for wear, cracks, and damage, particularly at the contact points with the pushrods and valve stems, and ensure the rollers operate freely and the pushrod end holes are open. Check the pushrods for cracks and excessive wear, rolling each across a piece of plate glass to detect any bends. For installation, lubricate the lower end of each pushrod with clean engine oil or moly-base grease and reinstall them in their original locations, ensuring they seat completely in the lifter socket. Apply moly-base grease to the ends of the valve stems and the upper ends of the pushrods, then install the rocker arm assemblies, tightening them to the specified torque while ensuring proper engagement of the pushrods in the rocker arms and correct positioning of the pedestal projections. Finally, install the valve covers, start the engine, and check for oil leaks and unusual sounds from the valve cover area.

    Q:
How to remove and reinstall camshafts,Lash Adjuster and Rocker Arm in six cylinder engine on Chevrolet Trailblazer? Posted by Customer
    A:
A special camshaft holding tool Number GM# J-44221 or equivalent is necessary for this action. When the cam sprocket has been taken off, do not turn the crankshaft this may cause improper timing of the engine with consequent damages of the engine. Start by unwiring the valve cover and the spark plugs so as to be in a position to rotate the engine. Turn the engine clockwise until grooves for sprockets match with a black link on the chain; the flats at the back of the camshafts will be up if the engine is at the Top Dead Centre for cylinder number one. Take out the camshaft sprocket bolts, and then do so carefully with the sprockets of the camshafts. Make sure the camshaft caps have been scribed; if they haven't been scribed, scribe them with paint before you remove them, so that it will be easier for you to align them later. Loosen and take out the camshaft cap bolts and in slow procedures extract the camshafts with caution to ensure that each of them is not mixed up. This is a good time to lift out the rocker arms and the lash adjusters and it will be wise to ensure that set is orderly set aside to be re-fixed later. When camshafts are removed they should be cleaned with solvent and dried, Check each camshaft for; scored journals, heat discoloration, score marks, chipped areas, pitting and uneven wear, damaged sprocket locator slots and damaged threads. You can use micrometer to take measurement of bearing journals looking for elevated levels of wear or out-of-round. To replace it, the lash adjusters and rocker arms must be immersed in clean engine oil, before being placed back in their positions. Ensure that the camshaft is clean then apply some drop of clean engine oil on the camshaft before putting it on the right place on the cylinder head and then fitting the holding tool for the camshaft correctly. Replace all camshaft caps in their proper positions and tighten them using your hands, afterwards using a pattern tighten the caps to the prescribed torque. Take out the holding fixture, put the sprockets on the camshafts in the right way, and screw the bolts to the suggested level of tension. However, after removing the crankshaft pulley bolt, positioned with large breaker bar and socket on it, rotate the crankshaft 720 degrees the crankshaft twice and again examine the sprocket and chain and see to it that the darkened links lines up with the sprocket marks. Any kind of grinding or any feeling of friction when working on the crankshaft should indicate that operations have to be ceased. Finally, fit back the spark plugs and the valve cover in position.

    Q:
How to remove and inspect Camshaft,Lash Adjuster and Rocker Arm in inline engine on GMC Canyon? Posted by Customer
    A:
A special camshaft holding tool (GM# J-44221 or equivalent) is required for this procedure. After removing the cam sprocket, do not rotate the crankshaft to avoid incorrect timing and potential engine damage. Begin by removing the valve cover and the spark plugs to facilitate engine rotation. Rotate the engine until the sprocket alignment marks are aligned with a dark chain link, ensuring the nats at the rear of the camshafts are facing up. Remove the camshaft sprocket bolts and carefully detach the sprockets from the camshafts, taking care not to remove them from the chain and suspending them to prevent the chain from coming off the crankshaft sprocket. Check the camshaft caps for markings and mark them with paint if necessary before removal. Remove the camshaft cap bolts gradually until they can be taken out, then extract the camshafts, keeping them separated to avoid mixing them up. The rocker arms and lash adjusters can be lifted out if needed, and these parts should be laid out in order for reinstallation. After cleaning the camshafts, inspect each for scored journals, heat discoloration, score marks, chipped areas, pitting, uneven wear, damaged locator pin slots, and damaged threads. Measure the bearing journals with a micrometer to check for excessive wear or out-of-round conditions. Compare the camshaft lobe heights by measuring each lobe with a micrometer, recording the measurements for both intake and exhaust lobes separately; if the difference exceeds 0.005 inch, the camshaft should be replaced. If removed, soak the lash adjusters and rocker arms in clean engine oil before reinstalling them in their original locations. Coat the camshaft with clean engine oil and place it in the correct position in the cylinder head, then install the camshaft holding tool. Install all camshaft caps in their original locations and hand tighten them, then evenly tighten the caps to the specified torque, working from the center out. Remove the holding fixture, place the sprockets onto the camshafts, and tighten the bolts to the specified torque. Using a large breaker bar and socket on the crankshaft pulley bolt, rotate the crankshaft 720 degrees and re-check the sprocket and chain alignment, ensuring the darkened links align with the sprocket marks; if resistance is felt while turning the crankshaft, stop immediately to diagnose the issue. Finally, install the spark plugs and the valve cover.

    Q:
How do you remove and install Lash Adjuster and Rocker Arm in 3.6L V6 engine on Pontiac G6? Posted by Customer
    A:
To remove valve covers one has to briefly remove the camshafts due to the presence of a spacer and the lash adjuster socket on the rocker. Label each of the rocker arms to know how to relocate them back into position and then remove it from the engine. With the rocker arms pulled out, the hydraulic lash adjusters can be accessed and extracted out of the cylinder head, their original position should be maintained for reused items. Check each rocker arm for signs of wear, cracks, and other kinds of damage at the areas that it makes contact with the valve stem; the rollers should be slippery to slide over, but if they are binding or rough, or if they make the bearings wobble, this is a clear sign that the rocker arm needs to be replaced as the bearings it is using are spoiled. That is right, these engines do not have provision for valve adjustments and therefore any wear or damage in the valve train will cause the valve clearance to increase and there will be noise when the machine is in operation. Check that the oil passage hole existing in each hydraulic lash adjuster is free. Camshaft lifter prelube should be applied to the pivot pockets, the roller and the slot that makes contact with the valve within the rocker arm to which it will be installedThe hydraulic lash adjusters get clean engine oil put into the bores before being installed into the cylinder head and the rocker arm fitted over the lash adjusters. The last procedures in it are the reverse of the above mentioned removal process, and before starting the engine, replace the oil and insert a new oil filter.
