    Q:
How do you properly remove and install a front shock absorber and coil spring assembly on Cadillac CTS? Posted by Customer
    A:
Uncouple the wheel lug nuts, lift the car and apply jack stands before detaching the wheel. Then disconnect the brake hose from the caliper , remove the bolts of the lower end of the shock absorber and bolt of the brake hose bracket on the steering knuckle. After on the 2007 and earlier models remove the upper pinch bolt on the ball joint to free the ball joint from the steering knuckle. For 2008 and later models, unbolt the upper balljoint nut and use a balljoint separator to pull the upper balljoint apart from the steering knuckle being very careful so that ballstud should not turn with the nut by twisting an Allen key while loosening the nut. Do not use an impact wrench in order to protect the ballstud or the steering knuckle. Take off cross brace fasteners and cross brace if used, and DIN 750 and earlier models requires removal of air conditioning line bracket fastener and bracket at the shock tower. Place the steerable knuckle on a hydraulic jack and then support the shock absorber and then remove the bolts holding the upper link. Lower the knuckle gently so that do not exert much force on the brake hose in order to remove the assembly. Check for fluid leaks on the shock body and scrutinise the coil spring for signs of abrasive wear on the coatings, or chipped in areas, and the spring seat for signs of cuts or corrosion. In the case of any defects note them and proceed and dismantle the shock absorber and coil spring. For installation, orient the assembly into the fenderwell, insert the upper aligning studs through the body holes and put the bolts in, but do not tighten the one that holds the crossbrace. The assembly is heavy and cumbersome hence it is recommended that help should be sought when assembling it. Tighten the three bolt to a torque of 100Nm, then put the upper ball joint to the steering knuckle and adjust the pinch bolt or ball stud nut to hold the ball stud seized. Bring the shock absorber assembly to match the lower control arm bolt and tighten to the torque. Replace the crossbrace and fasteners and tighten to the torque value then replace the wheel and lug nuts and lower the vehicle and tighten the lug nuts. Last, take the car to an alignment shop and get a front end alignment and any realignments if needed.

    Q:
How do you maintain the rear driveaxle boots for the 2009 Cadillac CTS? Posted by Customer
    A:
For the rear driveaxle boots, which protect the constant velocity joints, wash them with soap and water to prevent premature deterioration from oil and grease. Inspect for tears, cracks, and loose clamps; any evidence of damage or leaking lubricant necessitates replacement.
