The Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGA) system minimises NOx emissions by reducing combustion temperatures and it mostly uses the EGA valve for the circulation of exhaust gas back into the combustion chamber. The EGA valve often stays open during the warm engine use and while idling or at any engine speed higher than idle; the quantity of the recirculated gas is regulated by changes in vacuum and exhaust backpressure. There are three types of EGA valves: Digitiser/Linear, Negative Back Pressure, Integrated Electronics. The Digital EGA valve provides the PCM with precise exhaust gas flow to the intake manifold and releases and closes based on the Negative Backpressure EGA valve which uses vacuum and backpressure of the engine. The Integrated Electronic EGR valve includes a vacuum regulator and a pintle position sensor; the PCM provides variable current control of EGR. For component replacement, you need to detach the hose and electrical connectors, and unscrew the nuts or bolts of the valve and it is important to ensure that the valve and passages that should not be blocked when a new valve with gaskets is installed.
