Should servicing valves, valve seats, and valve guides be performed by a professional on Chevrolet Colorado? Posted by Customer
    A:
Because of the strenuous and technical work involved with the procedure and the required specific tools and equipments, valve job involves servicing of the valves, valve seats and valve guides using the interpersonal skills and know how which is recommend for professional mechanics. Some of the operations that may be performed in an automotive machine shop include the removal of the valves and springs, reconditioning or replacement of the valves and valve seats, reconditioning of the valve guides, checking, and replacement of valve springs, spring retainers, rotators and keepers if necessary; replacement of the valve seals with new ones, assembly of the valve components, for the proper installed height of the spring. Also, the cylinder head gasket surface will be machined if it is warped, while certain cylinder heads will have a minimum height of machining; anything beyond that height will require replacement. After the valve job is done, head should be almost as good as new, and before it can be bolted on to the engine, it is always important to clean it up again, to remove all the tiniest of metal particles and abrasive grit which could be left behind by the valve service or even the head resurface . It is quite possible to use compressed air for blowing all desired oil holes, bolt holes and cooling jackets.

    Q:
Should servicing valves, valve seats, and valve guides be performed by a professional in six cylinder engine on Chevrolet Trailblazer? Posted by Customer
    A:
Due to the complex nature of the job and the specialized tools and equipment required, servicing the valves, valve seats, and valve guides, commonly referred to as a valve job, should be performed by a professional. An automotive machine shop will remove the valves and springs, recondition or replace the valves and valve seats, recondition the valve guides, check and replace the valve springs, spring retainers, rotators, and keepers as necessary, replace the valve seals with new ones, reassemble the valve components, and ensure the installed spring height is correct. Additionally, the cylinder head gasket surface will be resurfaced if warped, noting that some cylinder heads have a minimum resurfacing height; exceeding this height necessitates replacement. Once the valve job is completed, the head will be in like-new condition. Before installation on the engine, it is important to clean the head again to remove any metal particles and abrasive grit that may remain from the valve service or head resurfacing operations, using compressed air if available to blow out all oil holes, bolt holes, and coolant passages.
