Q:
How do you remove and replace the thermostat in a Cadillac CTS? Posted by Customer
A:
To remove and replace the thermostat in a vehicle, disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal and drain the cooling system. On V6 engine models, loosen the radiator hose clamp and detach the hose. Remove the bolt holding the outlet pipe, oil dipstick tube, and engine lifting bracket, then pull the outlet pipe and O-rings. Remove the intake manifold and the thermostat housing fasteners. Press down on the thermostat and rotate it to clear the locking ears, then remove it. Remove the coolant pipe front and rear fasteners, as well as the pipe to thermostat housing fasteners, and remove the pipes from the thermostat housing. Remove the thermostat cover fasteners, detach the cover and thermostat, remove the cooling fan assembly, and disconnect the radiator hose clamp.

Q:
How do you remove the Thermostat on Cadillac Escalade? Posted by Customer
A:
Start by disconnecting the cable from the negative terminal of the battery and draining cooling system in order to remove 4.3L v6,5.3L and 6.2L V8 engines. Then, remove air intake duct and resonator assembly. By squeezing hose clamps, detach radiator hose and expansion tank hose from thermostat housing cover as well as cut off old or deteriorated hoses if necessary before replacing them with new ones. Remove bolts and separate thermostat housing/thermostat assembly tapping it with soft-face hammer if stuck during removal. For installation, clean coolant manifold mating surfaces along with thermostat housing cover, plus install a new o-ring seal to thermostat housing. Finally attach the thermostat/housing to the coolantmanifold and tighten the bolts to specified torque value."Reconnect these hoses to thermostathousing againand refillthe cooling system." Steps almost similar for 6.0 litre V8 engine only that you have also disconnected lower radiator hose as well removedthermostat housing coverfrom engine.Attachthermostathousing ontothecoolant manifoldandtightenbolts. The other steps are simply reversal of removal process; don't forget filling up of this system again though.

Q:
How to check and replace a thermostat in a cooling system on Chevrolet Avalanche,Silverado,Suburban,Tahoe,GMC Sierra,Yukon,Yukon Denali and Yukon XL? Posted by Customer
A:
Before assuming the thermostat is to blame for a cooling system problem, it is important to check the coolant level, drive belt tension, and temperature gauge (or light) operation. To remove and install the thermostat, follow the steps for either the V6 or V8 model. Also, clean the mating surfaces, install a new rubber O-ring around the thermostat, and check and replace hoses and clamps as necessary. Installation is the reverse of the removal. After installation, refill the cooling system, run the engine, and check carefully for leaks.

Q:
How to remove and replace a thermostat in a Chevrolet Camaro's cooling system? Posted by Customer
A:
Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Drain the cooling system. If the coolant is relatively new and still in good condition, save it and reuse it. Remove the oil filler cap then lift the front engine cover up and off of the ball studs. Remove the two plastic retaining pins at the rear of the intake manifold and slide the rear cover off the manifold. Remove the coolant pipe front and rear fasteners then remove the coolant pipe-to-thermostat housing fasteners. Remove the coolant pipe from the thermostat housing. Remove the thermostat cover fasteners and lift off the cover. If the cover is stuck, tap it with a soft-face hammer to jar it loose. Be prepared for some coolant to spill as the O-ring seal is broken. If the thermostat is the type that is not attached to the cover, remove it from the housing, noting how it is installed. If the thermostat is the type that is attached to the cover, press down on the thermostat and rotate it until the tabs clear the locking ears on the housing. Remove the thermostat from the housing. If the thermostat lower housing must be removed, remove the coolant pipe-to-lower housing bolts then remove the housing bolts. For V8 engines, remove the drivebelts. Disconnect the radiator hose clamp from the thermostat housing and remove the hose. Remove the bolts and lift the thermostat housing off. It may be necessary to tap it with a soft-face hammer to break the gasket seal then remove the thermostat from the housing. Clean the sealing surfaces. Inspect the hoses, replacing them as necessary. For V6 engines with thermostat mounted in cover, depress the tabs on the sides of the thermostat and rotate the thermostat until the tabs are aligned with the ears on the housing. For all other models, install a new rubber seal on the thermostat, then install the thermostat in the housing, spring-end first. Install the thermostat housing cover and bolts, then tighten the bolts to the torque. On V6 models, install a new O-ring onto the coolant tube and insert the tube into the housing. Tighten the coolant tube bolts to the torque. Installation is the reverse of removal. Refill the cooling system. Start the engine and allow it to reach normal operating temperature, then check for leaks and proper thermostat operation.

Q:
How do I diagnose and replace a thermostat in the cooling system for Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon? Posted by Customer
A:
Before assuming the thermostat is bad, check the coolant level, the drive belt tension, and the temperature gauge operation. Start disconnecting the cable from the negative terminal of the battery and draining the cooling system. Then, locate the thermostat housing by following the lower radiator hose to the engine. Remove the bolts and detach the thermostat housing, cleaning the mating surfaces on the engine and the housing. Install a new O-ring in the housing and reattach it to the engine, tightening the bolts to the proper torque specifications. Finally, refill the cooling system, check for leaks, and repeat the steps to ensure the repairs have resolved the previous problem(s).

Q:
How can you determine if the thermostat is stuck closed for the 2003 Chevrolet Express? Posted by Customer
A:
You can check the temperature of the radiator hose that leads from the thermostat to the radiator. If the hose is not hot, but the engine is, it is likely that the thermostat is stuck closed and should be replaced.
