    Q:
How do you remove and install an exhaust manifold in four cylinder engine on Pontiac G6? Posted by Customer
    A:
To remove the exhaust manifold, one has to first disconnect the connection of the negative terminal of the battery. Then pull the fuel line from the clasp and then pull off the exhaust manifold heat cover. Then, with a socket wrench, unbolt and temporarily relocate the upstream oxygen sensor, lift the car and securely position it on jack stands. Undo the nuts securing the exhaust manifold brace, withdraw the brace and the nuts, then unfasten the nuts securing the exhaust manifold to the cylinder head; the nuts are to be replaced should they be used on this job. For installation clean mating surfaces on the cylinder head, manifold, and on the exhaust pipe using a scraper and solvent to make sure that they are flat and undamaged; if they are warped or damaged they may need to undergo some machining. The new gasket must be fitted on the cylinder head studs then the manifold applied on the cylinder head while tightening of the nuts is done from the center and outward to the standard torque. Join the exhaust pipe to the manifold/catalytic converter assembly and fasten its nuts with the appropriate measure of force. To complete the removal process that was discussed above, reverse the following steps and reconnect the battery: At last conduct the exhaust gas test with the engine running or simply rev and listen for the leaks.

    Q:
How do you remove and install the exhaust manifold in four cylinder engine on Chevrolet Malibu? Posted by Customer
    A:
Turbocharged 1.5L engines have the exhaust manifold incorporated in the turbocharger. To take off the 2.0L engine exhaust manifold start with the battery by detaching the cable of the negative terminal then work on the exhaust manifold heat shield and the turbocharger. Fourth, the take off of the exhaust manifold support bracket by the use of the mounting nuts and bolt and the removal of the manifold through the removal of the mounting bolts of the manifold from the cylinder head. The above models are as follows: Installation, prior to assembly, scrape the surfaces on cylinder head, manifold, and exhaust pipe with a scraper and brake system cleaner, check that both surfaces are flat and unbroken. Put a new gasket on the cylinder head and fit the manifold Tighten new exhaust manifold bolts to torque specs, starting at the center bolt and in an outward manner regularly to five minutes as the new bolts used have adhesive coating on it. The process of installation is the same as the removal and connecting the battery, after the start of the engine, one should look for exhaust leaks. The most vital preliminary steps for both 2.5L engines are: The negative terminal of the battery should be disconnected and the exhaust manifold heat shield should be removed and the car must be lifted on jack stands securely. Remove penetrating oil up to the core bolts and nuts of the connection of the catalytic converter to the manifold, and extract the catalytic converter. Loose the electrical connection of the oxygen sensor and set down the lead coming from the retaining clip. The exhaust manifold must be unbolted from the cylinder head and therefore, the bolts which secure the manifold must be loosened. In the same way, clean the mating surfaces as mentioned above that should be flat and without any blemishes, fit a new gasket and fit the manifold and tighten the bolt to the competitor torque uniformly. Align the flange of the catalytic converter with the one on the manifold, bolt them together and tighten the bolts, to complete the process follow the reverse process and reconnect the battery, start the engine and physically searching for exhaust leakage.

    Q:
How should the mating surfaces of the manifold and cylinder head be prepared for the 2007 Pontiac G6? Posted by Customer
    A:
The mating surfaces must be clean, using a gasket scraper to remove all carbon deposits and gasket material, taking care not to damage the aluminum cylinder heads.
