Remove the nuts of the rear wheel, lift the rear of the car and place it on jackstands, and then, release the parking brake. Jam the front wheels so that the unit does not roll, and then remove the back ones. Lift off the brake caliper, the mounting bracket and the brake disc and relieve the parking brake adjuster so as to create space for the cable. Clean the brake assembly, with brake system cleaner, and pull the shoe towards down to free the retaining clip to set it off from the actuator. Raise the one end of the shoe over the axle flange, gradually getting the shoe out of place. Before fitting the new shoe, turn the adjuster screw star wheel in until the slots in the adjusting screw and tappet are parallel to the backing plate. To put the shoe in place, follow the direction that you used to remove the shoe, with special concern to ensure that the shoe fits tightly into the slots of adjuster screw and tappet. Just before tightening the new shoe and lining assembly to the anchor plate, there must be slight drag or friction when the lining rubs on the braking surface on the inside of the disc; thereafter, loosen the screw a little until there is no drag when the complete disc is in place and turned ever so slightly, with the aim of achieving a minimum clearance of 0.026 inches between the surface of the liner and the braking surface of the brake disc Reverse the above removal process, and torque the bolts of the caliper bracket, caliper mounting, and wheel lug nuts.
