This procedure applies only to 1999 models. Spark plug wires should be inspected at regular basis and when there is replacement of spark plugs of the engine. When identifying the wires, it is necessary to do it one wire at a time to avoid confusion of the sequences which are crucial for the functioning of the engine. Pull off the plug wire: This is how you do it; first hold the rubber insulator at the base and twist while pulling it off; do not pull on the wire. Also look at the inside of the boot as there may be signs of corrosion that is shown by a white crusty powder substance. Screw the wire and boot back to the spark plug; the two should well fit each other by twisting. If it doesn't fit now, take a pair of pliers and press the given metal connector henceforth inside the boot properly. Using a clean cloth, clean the complete length of wire removing dirt and grease, and visually inspect them for burn marks, cracks or other deleterious conditions however, mechanical damage having to do with bending or pulling heavily on wires have to be avoided. Remove the wire from the distributor just by pulling the rubber boot and inspect whether there is corrosion or the wire is tight before joining back. Go through the other wire connectors of spark plugs, using a multimeter check on each of the spark plug wires, make sure they are properly connected at the ignition coil or distributor end and the other end is connected to the spark plug. If new spark plug wires are required then it is advisable to directly get a set according to the engine model as wire sets are supplied pre-Lucifer with rubber boots. Take out and bring in the wires section by section to ensure that the firing sequence of the cylinders is not mistaken.

Remove and replace the wires one at a time to avoid mix-ups in the firing order.
