- A:When working with an alternator, ensure correct polarity connections when attaching battery cables. Install a condenser between the alternator output terminal and ground during testing to avoid diode damage. Don't operate the alternator with disconnected output terminals or recharge the battery without disconnecting the alternator output terminal. Always connect the positive terminal first when installing a battery and never disconnect it while the engine is running. Don't apply voltage exceeding the battery voltage during testing. To remove the alternator, unplug the control harness, remove the battery wire, and loosen the mounting hardware. For VB engines, the alternator is on the right-hand side.
