    Q:
How to drain the fuel tank, remove and install the fuel tank on Buick Century? Posted by Customer
    A:
In order to drain the fuel tank, you should first open the fuel tank cap; thereafter place the siphon pump at the end of the 1/4 in. The second 6mm fuel return hose is situated above the rear axle if one cannot find it there then it is near the fuel pump on the passenger side of the engine and after running the siphon pump and removing all the fuel one has to replace the both hoses and the fuel cap. When installing and removing the quick connect fitting 1975-77 models, siphon the fuel from the tank, disconnect the fuel gauge sending unit wire from the rear wiring harness, raise the car and remove the fuel gauge wire screw from the underbody, locate the fuel line connected to the sending unit pickup line and remove it, in addition remove the vent hoses, and stripper retaining bolts to lower the support straps and gently lower the tank. Therefore to install the program the process will be quite inversely, meaning all these above steps will be followed in reverse. For 1978-87 models, it is very similar: first, draw out the fuel, then cut out the fuel gauge sending unit wire, lift the car with a jack, unscrew the fuel gauge ground wire, disconnect the fuel line, remove the vent hoses, and, at last, remove the strap retaining bolts to lower the tank. Be sure to align the body over the frame mounting hole while installing a body mount so that there are no metal to metal contacts, for all bolt in body, the use of the tube spacer, the insulator and the metal washer must be in position into the frame rail. Do not over-torque the body mount to minimize chances of a collapsed tube spacer or a stripped bolt and fit the lower cushions and retainers for body bolts and take it to 77 ft. lbs. (105 Nm). Make sure surfaces are clean and dry for clamping, if body mount bolt threads do not turn freely, put a tap through the cage nut to remove foreign material but do not punch through the underbody. Lastly, turn the car lower, torque the intermediate steering shaft clamp bolt at 40 ft. lbs. Torque the cylinder head bolts to a final 54 Nm, and fit the strut which supports the engine.
