    Q:
How does the oil life indicator system work and How to change the oil and filter on Cadillac Escalade? Posted by Customer
    A:
These vehicles come with an oil life indicator system which illuminates the light or sends a message on the instrument panel for an oil change depending on the wear of the oil it considers different factors. While this system sounds better than the traditional 3000-mile change, the it usually results in a longer time between the changes and the manufacturer still recommends frequent changes for the health of the engine. If deciding to go by the oil life indicator, use the vehicle up to 7,500 miles before changing the oil. This is because used oil will in most cases cause the engine to wear out due to normal usage beyond the recommended interval. The oil filter is easy to replace and inexpensive, and therefore should be replaced every time the oil is changed. At the beginning position all required tools and supplies, and prepare paper towels and newspaper for accidents. Get the engine up to normal operating temperature, then safely hoist the car up and take off the splash shield. Locate the oil drain plug and the oil filter, and put drain pan under the drain plug and carefully unscrew the plug with the wrench because there are hot oil around the plug. When the liquid is finally emptied, it is prudent to administer some cleaning work on the drain plug before restringing it back again. Place the drain pan below the oil filter, unscrew the oil filter using the oil filter wrench and pour out the used filter into the pan. Crossover the new filter with the old one to check compatibility, clean the area where the filter is mounted and check on the condition of the rubber gasket to know if it has bond. Dip the new filter's gasket in clean oil, then secure it, as per the manufacturer's guidelines, and then lower the vehicle. Pour the correct quantity of fresh oil, look at the dip stick and start the engine slightly so that as to check the drips. Check the level of the oil again after some few minutes and add more oil if there is need. It is probably best to keep an eye on the quantity of oil after the first few trips, and listen for leaks. The old oil should be dumped carefully, or it should be recycled since it should not be poured down drains or on the ground. The 'Oil Life Monitor' monitors engine conditions and will prompt when it is need of an oil change. Once the oil has been changed and the filter replaced, continue with the Oil Change reminder system by turning the ignition to run, pressing the accelerator pedal depress 3 times followed by turning the key start the engine. If the indicator remains on, try again the reset procedure.
