    Q:
How to Brake Caliper Removal and Installation and Overhaul for Buick Century,Regal? Posted by Customer
    A:
To remove the caliper, follow steps 2-4 of pad replacement, then take out the inner pad, spring clip, and L-shaped retainer. Clean the caliper with denatured alcohol, discard the brake hose copper gasket, and empty the caliper brake fluid. For installation, attach the brake hose with a new gasket, lubricate sleeves and bushings, fit bushings and disc pads, remount the caliper, reconnect brake hose, insert the retainer clip, bleed brakes, and test the vehicle. To overhaul, shield the piston with wood, eject using compressed air, remove the dust boot and bleeder screw, inspect piston and caliper bore. Clean reusable parts, fit new seals, lubricate the caliper bore, reassemble the caliper, install pads, bleed brakes, secure the wheel, and test drive.

    Q:
How to purchase a caliper overhaul kit and remove the caliper from the caliper bracket for Buick Skylark,Oldsmobile Omega and Pontiac Phoenix? Posted by Customer
    A:
Purchase a caliper overhaul kit which contains all of the necessary replacement parts. Remove the caliper from the caliper bracket and remove the pads from the caliper. In this operation, the inlet brake line should be removed from the caliper. To minimize brake fluid leakage, it can be plugged by fitting a short piece of rubber hose, the same diameter as the connection, over the line, inserting a suitable bolt in the free end and clamping it. Use clean rags to pad the inside of the caliper. If you have access to compressed air, place an air nozzle into the caliper inlet hole and slowly apply air until the piston is forced out of its bore. CAUTION: Do not use your fingers to try and catch the piston as serious injury could result. If you do not have access to compressed air, hold the caliper with the inlet hole up and carefully bang the caliper down on a block of wood to force the piston out. As a last resort, temporarily re-install the brake line to the caliper and have an assistant depress the brake pedal. The fluid pressure will force the piston out. Inspect the piston for scoring, nicks, corrosion and worn or damaged chrome plating, and replace it if necessary. Remove the dust boot by prying with a screwdriver. Be careful not to scratch the housing bore. Remove the piston seal from its groove with a wood or plastic dowel. Do not use a metal tool here, as it could damage the bore. Inspect the caliper bore for scoring, nicks, corrosion or wear. Light corrosion can be removed with crocus cloth. If crocus cloth will not clean up the bore, the caliper housing must be replaced. Remove the bleeder screw. Clean the piston and housing bore and bleeder screw with denatured alcohol. Do not use gasoline or mineral-based solvents. Lubricate the bore and the new piston seal with clean brake fluid and install the seal in its groove. Be sure the seal is not twisted. Install the new dust boot onto the groove of the piston. Insert the piston in its bore and press it down, working it through its seal until it bottoms. Seat the new dust boot in the caliper bore. Install the bleeder screw. Apply multi-purpose lithium grease at all surfaces where the caliper assembly meets the caliper bracket. Complete the operation.
