    Q:
How to remove and install the Throttle Cable? Posted by Customer
    A:
It has the cable type of throttle control system that does not have any linkage adjustments; hence, only a specific replacement part would work in this case. When working on the throttle controls, care should be taken to restore all linkages and cables as they were removed and to ensure there is no rubbing or binding. Servicing the throttle cable calls for retention of the retainer with the tangs secured over the head of the stud, expanding and locking down the locking tangs in the conduit fitting at both ends of the cable into their attaching holes, ensuring that braid doesn't touch dash sealer on front side during assembly, repair or replacement and avoiding routing flexible parts within 2" of throttle linkage moving parts outward of support bracket unless routing is positively controlled. Servicing the accelerator pedal requires that there be no insulation between mounting surface of support and dash panel, while carpet and padding must be laid flat without wrinkles or bunching in pedal and tunnel areas, slipping the throttle control cable through orifice in rod slot and then installing retainer on rod (ensuring that it seats correctly and keeps cable from getting kinked or damaged) as well as operating freely without binding throughout closed throttle to wide open throttle travel when all components of acceleration linkage are secured. Removing it entails disconnecting battery negative terminal cable from it's terminal post, removing air cleaner housing adapter, locating forward end of throttle cable at engine; popping retaining clip on end of throttle linkage stud loose with a small screwdriver; detaching retainer from throttle lever stud; disconnecting throttle cable from notch on throttle valve; pinching two locking tabs together on ferrule pulling cable through hole in bracket; locating upper end of accelerator pedal lever by pushing small plastic brush out top; pushing lever forward lifting cable free from slot in top of lever; positioning soles immediately above and ahead upper end where comes through firewall: pull large rubber washer loose pinch locking tabs together pull cable through firewall; finally, installation is the reverse of removal.
