    Q:
Should engine mounts be replaced immediately if they are broken or deteriorated to prevent damage to drive line components in 2.2L four cylinder engine on Pontiac Grand Prix? Posted by Customer
    A:
Engine mounts seldom require attention, but broken or deteriorated mounts should be replaced immediately to prevent damage or wear on the drive line components. To check the mounts, raise the engine slightly to remove the weight from them. Begin by raising the vehicle and securely supporting it on jack stands, then position a jack under the engine oil pan with a large block of wood between the jack head and the oil pan. Carefully raise the engine just enough to relieve the weight on the mounts, ensuring no part of your body is under the engine when it is only supported by a jack. Inspect the mounts for any cracks, hardened rubber, or separation from the metal plates, noting that the rubber may split down the center. Check for any relative movement between the mount plates and the engine or frame using a large screwdriver or pry bar; if movement is detected, lower the engine and tighten the mount fasteners. To slow deterioration, apply rubber preservative to the mounts. For replacement, disconnect the negative battery cable, ensuring that the lockout feature of the Theft lock audio system is turned off if applicable. Remove the through-bolt from the engine bracket end of the upper mount strut and rotate the strut out of the way. Slightly raise the engine with a jack or hoist, then remove the fasteners to detach the mount from the frame bracket, followed by removing the mount-to-block bracket bolts or nuts. For the upper mount strut, disconnect the negative battery cable again and remove the bolts and nuts from the strut and brace, ensuring the lockout feature is off if necessary. Installation follows the reverse order of removal, using thread locking compound on the threads and tightening everything securely.

    Q:
What are the differences between the 1992 Pontiac Grand Prix engine mounts? Posted by Customer
    A:
Note that 1995 and earlier models have front and rear engine mounts, while 1996 and later models have a single mount and bracket located below the crankshaft balancer.

    Q:
How can I check the condition of the engine mounts for the 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix? Posted by Customer
    A:
To check the mounts, raise the engine slightly to remove the weight from them, ensuring the vehicle is securely supported on jackstands. If a special support fixture is unavailable, position a jack under the engine oil pan with a large block of wood in between, raising the engine just enough to relieve the weight from the mounts.

    Q:
Do engine mounts typically require maintenance for the 1990 Pontiac Grand Prix? Posted by Customer
    A:
Engine mounts typically do not require attention, but any broken or deteriorated mounts should be replaced immediately to prevent damage or wear on the driveline components.
