    Q:
What is the importance of the serpentine drivebelt and how should it be inspected and replaced on Chevrolet Trailblazer? Posted by Customer
    A:
A serpentine drive belt is situated to the front of the engine and it is vital for the function of the engine and its parts, which comprises the alternator, electric power assisted steering, the water pump and air conditioning unit. The belt is an easily wearable component because of its function and nature of construction; therefore, it needs periodical check-ups. When the engine is cooled down, turn off the car and look at the belt: there should be no cracks, plys separated from each other, fraying and glazing on both sides of the belt. In the present design, ribs on the underside should be of equal thickness. The belt tension is set by a spring-loaded tensioner assembly that cannot be adjusted; replacement is required when an arrow on the tensioner lines up with an indexing mark on it. To remove the belt, turn the tensioner clockwise to reduce tension so as to take the belt off the tensioner and other accessories while still unscrewing the tensioner fully. After that ensures that the new belt has the right length after stretching, take it through the pulleys while turning the tensioner to enable the installation process. For tensioner replacement, first, remove the belt Then, for the six-cylinder engines remove the tensioner mounting bolt or for V8 engines remove the mounting bolts and then installation is done in reverse of the procedure removing the bolt and indexing the dowel on the six-cylinder engines.

    Q:
Are there different belt configurations for the 2014 Chevrolet Express? Posted by Customer
    A:
Yes, on 2003 and later V8 models and 2018 and later V6 models with air conditioning, a separate belt is used for the air conditioning compressor. Additionally, 2018 and later V6 models equipped with a vacuum pump utilize a separate belt for that component.
