If the engine has been removed from the car, disregard the following steps which do not apply. Loosen the alternator, power steering pump, and air conditioning compressor as required to relieve tension on the drive belts. Remove the cooling fan and the radiator shroud. Remove the drive belts, noting the installed positions of each. Remove the fan pulley from the water pump shaft. Remove the accessory drive pulley from the harmonic balancer, then remove the retaining bolt at the center of the harmonic balancer. Install a special harmonic balancer remover to the balancer and carefully draw it off the crankshaft, ensuring not to drop it as it breaks free; a common gear puller should not be used as it may separate the outer portion of the balancer from the inner hub, so only a puller that bolts to the inner hub should be utilized. Before installing the harmonic balancer, coat the front cover seal area on the balancer with engine oil. Place the balancer in position over the key on the crankshaft, ensuring the balancer keyway lines up with the key. Using a harmonic balancer installer, draw the balancer onto the crankshaft, as this tool distributes the draw evenly around the inner hub. Remove the installation tool and install the center retaining bolt of the harmonic balancer, torquing it to specifications. Follow the removal procedure in reverse order for the remaining components and adjust the tension of the various belts.

Use a puller to remove the vibration damper from the crankshaft. It's important to use a bolt-type puller that applies force to the damper hub. Using a jaw-type puller that applies force to the outer edge can damage the damper.

Align the hub key-way with the Woodruff key, tighten the damper-to-crankshaft bolt to the specified torque, install the pulley on the damper, torque its bolts to 37 ft-lb, and reinstall the remaining parts in the reverse order of removal.

Begin by disconnecting the negative battery cable, ensuring that the Theftlock audio system's lockout feature is off if applicable.

Loosen the lug nuts on the right front wheel, then raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands before removing the right front wheel and the right front fender inner splash shield.
