    Q:
How do you remove the control arm for Chevrolet Malibu? Posted by Customer
    A:
To remove control arm, start by loosening the lug nuts on the front wheel. Raise the front of the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Remove the front wheel. Then separate balljoint from steering knuckle and take out control arm to subframe fastener(s). Dispose of these fasteners, and remove control arm as well. Reinstall with new fasteners tightened to proper torque specifications, also tightening wheel lug nuts to appropriate torque specifications. As for bushing replacement, if the front bushing is worn out, it is not replaceable hence control arm has to be replaced. On a vise mount the control arm then remove bolt bushing-to-control arm that connects them together; discard this bolt when reassembling put in a new one instead of it. Take away bushing from shaft of control arm. For installing new bushing use new bolt and tighten down with suitable torque specifications. It is important to note that both front or rear bushings are not replaceable so if they wear out you will need another control arm.
