Q: How do you remove and install the NVG-900 and MJ-8 transfer cases on Saturn Vue?
A: In order to take out the NVG-900 transfer case the following steps will have to be followed, Loosen the right-front wheel lug nuts, jack up the front of the vehicle and then prop it securely on jackstands, then finally, remove the tire. Next, remove the bolts for center bearing of the driveshaft and the front part of the driveshaft and either flex or compress in order to disconnect it from the transfer case and suspend with wire. Left drive axle shaft, intermediate shaft, steering gear to engin/transaxle subframe bolt, transaxle mount to body, transfer case RH mount, transfer case vent hose. Then pull out the nuts Fastened to the transfer case and the transfer case after which you pull the transfer case from the transaxle. For installation, the bolts should be initially thread screwed by hand and then turned up to the required torque amounts, the driveshaft fasteners must be screwed up to a specific torque value and the transfer case should be refilled with the right fluid and wheel lug nuts tightened. For MJ-8 transfer case, safely jack up the vehicle and set it on jackstands, then remove bolts of the front section of the driveshaft and mark each of the components before removal, remove the exhaust crossover pipe for clearance. In order to do so, remove vent tube from the transfer case, unbolt the transfer case in reverse sequence, take out the crossmember and alternator. Unbolts on the transfer case bracket fixed to the engine head need to be undone followed by the mounting bolts of the transfer case from the two sides then the transfer case is withdrawn from the vehicle. For new installation bolt the exhaust system, driveshaft, and transfer case according to the torque specifications, replace the transfer case fluid, and tighten the wheel bolts.
