Saturn Vue Timing Chain

The Timing Chain in Saturn Vue cars plays vital role of maintaining the rotation of cranks halt and cam halt at right time for correct valve timing required for optimum production of engines. Located at the front side of the engine, the Timing Chain needs lubrication to function properly well, and is generally seen in higher capacity engines. The Saturn Vue models use metal Timing Chains and this has become a trend since the 1990s because they are more reliable than the rubber timing belt. Timing Chains on the other hand usually undergo little wear though they can be affected by either poor lubrication or problems with the tensioner and the chain guides and this is usually revealed by a rattling sound emanating from the front of the engine. One such configuration relates to pushrod positioned engines that suggest the use of a short chain drive because of its efficiency when handling torque reversals as compared to the use of gear drives.

Each OEM Saturn Vue Timing Chain we offer is competitively priced and comes with the assurance of the manufacturer's warranty for the part. Furthermore, we guarantee the speedy delivery of your orders right to your doorstep. Our hassle-free return policy is also in place for your peace of mind.

Saturn Vue Timing Chain Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How Do You Replace and Install a Timing Chain and Timing Sprocket in four cylinder engine on Saturn Vue?
A: Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal and remove the spark plugs. Remove the valve cover and, using a wrench on the flats of the intake Camshaft, rotate the engine clockwise to 60 degrees before TDC, achieving this when the diamond-shaped spot on the intake sprocket is at the 12 o'clock position. Drain the engine oil and remove the drivebelt along with the drivebelt tensioner from the front cover. Remove the engine front cover and the valve cover again, followed by the timing chain tensioner and the upper timing chain guide. Remove the exhaust camshaft sprocket bolt, ensuring to discard the bolt and install a new one upon reassembly. Remove the adjustable timing chain guide and unscrew the access plug to remove the fixed timing chain guide's upper mounting bolt, then remove the lower mounting bolt and lift the guide from the engine block. Remove the intake camshaft sprocket bolt, discarding it as well, and carefully take out the timing chain and intake camshaft sprocket. Remove the timing chain drive sprocket and slide the timing chain oiling nozzle off the engine block. Clean all parts with solvent and dry with compressed air, inspecting the chain tensioner, timing chain guides, timing chain, and crankshaft and camshaft sprockets for wear or damage, replacing any questionable components. Before installing the timing chain, ensure the timing mark on the crankshaft sprocket points to the 5 o'clock position, then install the intake camshaft sprocket with a new bolt, tightening it lightly. Lower the timing chain from the top, ensuring it drops around both sides of the cylinder block bosses, aligning the bright colored link with the INT designation on the camshaft sprocket. Drape the timing chain over the crankshaft sprocket, engaging the plated link with the timing mark. Install the adjustable timing chain guide and tighten the bolts, then install the exhaust camshaft sprocket with a new bolt, ensuring the plated link aligns with the EXH designation. Tighten the exhaust camshaft sprocket bolt lightly, followed by the installation of the fixed and upper timing chain guides, tightening their bolts. Hold the intake and exhaust camshafts with a wrench to prevent turning while tightening their respective bolts. Install the timing chain tensioner in its compressed state, ensuring it measures 2.83 inches from end to end, and install the timing chain oiling nozzle, tightening the bolt. Apply RTV sealant to the threads and install the timing chain guide access plug, tightening the bolt. Install the valve cover and engine front cover, then complete the installation in reverse order of removal, installing a new oil filter and refilling the crankcase with oil. Reconnect the battery, run the engine, and check for leaks.
