- Q: How do I remove and replace the alternator in a Saturn Vue?A: Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Remove the engine cover. Remove the drivebelt. Disconnect the Battery Cable and other wiring connections from the alternator terminals. On 2004 and later V6 models, jack up the engine to create working room around the alternator. For four-cylinder models, remove the air intake duct and lift out the alternator after disconnecting the wiring and removing the mounting bolts. For 2002 and 2003 V6 models, remove the drivebelt and tensioner, raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands, remove the top alternator bolts, turn the front wheels fully to the right, and remove the lower alternator mounting bolts. For 2004 and later V6 models, remove the air filter housing, raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands, remove the drivebelt and tensioner, place a jack with a block of wood under the engine, support the engine's weight and remove the front engine mount bolt, jack up the engine enough to get clearance to the alternator, and remove the alternator mounting bolts and maneuver it downward. If replacing the alternator, ensure the new/rebuilt unit looks identical to the old alternator in terms of electrical terminals, identification numbers, and pulley installation. Installation is the reverse of removal, ensuring the alternator mounting bolts are tightened securely. Reconnect the cable to the negative terminal of the battery and check the charging voltage to verify proper operation of the alternator.
