Saturn Outlook A/C Compressor Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How do you replace the air conditioning Compressor?
A: To remove the air conditioning system, start by recovering the refrigerant. Then, disconnect the negative battery terminal and remove the drive belt. Next, set the parking brake, block the rear wheels, and raise the front of the vehicle on jackstands. Remove the right front wheel and inner fender splash shield. Disconnect the compressor clutch electrical connector and remove the bolts for the refrigerant line fittings, discarding the seals. Seal all open connections to prevent contamination. Remove the compressor mounting bolts and carefully remove the compressor from the vehicle, avoiding tilting to prevent spilling refrigerant oil. For installation, transfer the clutch from the old compressor to the new unit if necessary. Adjust the oil level according to the compressor's instructions or add 2.5 oz (75 ml) of fresh refrigerant oil. Install the new compressor, using new seals and lubricating O-rings with clean refrigerant oil. Reconnect the battery and have the system evacuated, recharged, and leak-tested.
