Saturn LS1 Brake Pad Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove the Brake Pad?
A: To remove the brake assembly, start by removing the cap from the brake fluid reservoir. Then, loosen the wheel lug nuts and raise the vehicle, supporting it securely on jackstands. Block the wheels at the opposite end. Remove the wheels and inspect the Brake Disc. If machining is necessary, remove the disc and the pads. To make room for the new brake pads, push the piston back into its bore using an AC-clamp. Be careful not to let the fluid in the master cylinder overflow, and siphon off some if necessary. For the front brakes, after replacing the pads, firmly depress the brake pedal a few times and check the brake fluid level. Add some if needed and carefully test the brakes before normal use. For the rear brakes, wash the brake with brake system cleaner and then insert the new pads in the caliper, following the reverse of the removal procedure. Install the anti-rattle spring and pad retaining pins. After completing the job, firmly depress the brake pedal a few times, check the brake fluid level, and test the brakes before normal use.
