  • Q: How to remove and reinstall a hood latch cable?
    A: Open the hood, then place blankets or pads over the fenders and cowl area of the body. Remove the radiator grille. Disconnect the hood cable by rotating the spring, providing slack and disconnect the cable from the hook in the spring. First, rotate the spring to release cable tension and disconnect the cable from the hook in the spring using needle-nose pliers. Remove the spring from the radiator support. Use pliers to remove the spring end from the locating hole in the radiator support structure. Remove the hood cable bracket from the radiator support. Remove the hood cable bracket mounting bolt and separate the cable from the radiator support structure. Remove the rear hood seal from the engine compartment cowl. Remove the cowl cover. Remove the insulator panel from below the driver's side of the instrument panel. Pull out the pin retainers then remove the Insulator panel. Remove the lower heating duct from under the driver's side of the instrument panel. Use two small screwdrivers to release the hood latch handle retainer clips. Use two thin screwdrivers inserted under the release clips then release the clips by prying the clips down simultaneously. Slide the hood latch handle forward and down to release the handle from the bracket. Attach a piece of thin wire or string to the latch end of the cable. Push the rubber grommet through the firewall and pull the hood cable into the vehicle. With the new cable attached to the wire or string, pull the wire or string back through the firewall until the new cable reaches the spring. Check that the cable grommet is properly seated in the engine compartment firewall. Check that the cable grommet in the engine compartment firewall is seated and will not leak. Working in the passenger compartment, reinstall the hood latch handle into the bracket, sliding the handle onto its bracket until the retainer clips snap into the notches in the bracket. The remainder of installation is the reverse of removal.
