Pontiac Vibe Wheel Cylinder Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace a wheel cylinder in a Toyota Matrix and Pontiac Vibe?
A: Raise the rear of the vehicle and rest it on jackstands securely. Keep the front wheels blocked for preventing them from rolling. Depose the Brake Shoe assembly. Clear off all dirt and foreign matter around the wheel cylinder. The flare-nut wrench could be used to undo the Brake Line if present. Refrain from pulling the brake line away from the cylinder. There are two wheel cylinder mounting bolts that will have to be removed. Take out wheel cylinder away from brake backing plate and locate it onto a clean workbench. In order to avoid loss of fluid and contamination, do not forget to plug immediately another end of the pipe, connected with its free side via a union nut. Put a wheel cylinder in place, install bolt finger tight and connect a brake line to it without crossing threadings around fitting bridges. Use torque specifications during tightening of wheel cylinder bolt. Tighten it there after tightening the brake lining fitting as well as installing a drum with shoes into position on wheel cylinder bolts; finally bleed brakes to remove any trapped air left within lines or cylinders before reattaching wheels back onto studs where they were mounted earlier; when done lowering vehicle so that lug nuts can be tightened by hand until they become snug enough but not too tight causing damage later on while being driven again.
