Pontiac Vibe Brake Light Switch Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How do I adjust and replace the brake light switch?
A: At the top of the brake pedal is where the brake light switch is located. To remove it, detach the wiring harness from the brake light switch before then unscrewing and loosening the switch from its bracket on the pedal. The installation process is simply reverse of removing. For adjustment, check and, if necessary, adjust brake pedal height. Loosen the switch locknut, and adjust the switch so that the distance the plunger protrudes is within the range specifications. If you're unable to measure this distance, adjust the plunger so that it lightly contacts the pedal stop. Tighten the locknut. Plug electric connector into switch and reconnect battery; this is a good time to ensure that when depressed, brake lights still come on or go off as well as when released for them to be replaced in case it happens. If not, repeat adjustment procedure until brake lights work properly.
