Pontiac Grand Prix Oxygen Sensor
Oxygen Sensor is one of the major components of the automotive system found in Pontiac Grand Prix which is responsible for measuring the quantity of unburned oxygen present in the exhaust system so as to regulate the erratic air fuel ratio and to reduce emissions. It produces a voltage signal which is proportional to the amount of oxygen which makes the engine control computer to change the pulse width of the fuel injector. This feedback mechanism allows the engine to work in a 'feedback loop' and thus improve the efficiency of catalytic converter. Depending on the model version, the Pontiac Grand Prix may be equipped with oxygen sensor manufactured using zirconium dioxide both narrow-band and wide-band versions. Narrow-band sensors give the signals which are either rich or lean, while the wide-band tend to give a wider range of the air-fuel mixture signals. These sensors can also wear out with time due to the presence of contaminants resulting into high emission and low fuel consumptions. There are few critical parameters of a vehicle which should be checked on a regular basis, and one of them is Oxygen Sensor.
