Pontiac G5 A/C Compressor Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove a Compressor?
A: To remove the air conditioning system, start by discharging and recovering the system. Then, disconnect the battery cable and loosen the lug nuts on the right front wheel. Raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands before removing the wheel. Remove the inner fender splash shield and the drivebelt. For 2.0L supercharged models, drain the intercooler cooling system and remove the bolts securing the intercooler Water Pump. Disconnect the electrical connector from the compressor clutch field coil and, if necessary, the high-pressure sensor electrical connector. Disconnect the compressor inlet and outlet lines, removing the old O-rings. Finally, remove the compressor by taking out the mounting bolts. To install a new compressor, follow the manufacturer's instructions for measuring and adding new oil. The clutch may need to be transferred from the original compressor. Before reconnecting the inlet and outlet lines, replace the manifold O-rings and lubricate them with refrigerant oil. Then, reverse the removal steps. Once installed, have the system evacuated, recharged, and leak tested by a professional.
