Pontiac Firebird Coil Spring Insulator Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and install the Coil Spring Insulator and Coil Spring on Pontiac Firebird?
A: Raise the rear of the vehicle and support it on jackstands while also supporting the rear axle assembly on a hydraulic jack. Remove the track bar mounting bolt at the axle assembly on the left side and loosen the track bar bolt at the body brace on the right side. Disconnect the rear brake hose clip from the vehicle underbody to allow additional axle drop, ensuring not to suspend the axle by the brake hose to avoid damage. Remove the lower Shock Absorber mounting nut from both rear shocks, and for vehicles equipped with a 4-cylinder engine, remove the driveshaft. Carefully lower the jack under the rear axle assembly until the spring or insulator can be removed. To install, position the spring and insulator in the spring seat and raise the hydraulic jack until the spring is normally compressed. Attach the shocks to the rear axle and tighten the nuts to the specified torque, then install the track bar mounting bolt at the axle and tighten the nut to the specified torque. Tighten the track bar-to-body bracket nut to the specified torque and attach the brake hose clip to the underbody. For 4-cylinder vehicles, install the driveshaft, then remove the jackstands and lower the vehicle.
