Pontiac Fiero Ignition Lock Cylinder

The Pontiac Fiero Ignition Lock Cylinder is essential for starting the car's engine because it demands the right keys to be inserted and twisted. This is in the form of a culpable ignition switch that supplies power from the battery to the starter, ignition as well as the fuel injection. This is confirmed by the changes in design of the Pontiac Fiero's Ignition Lock Cylinder where features like coded keys were developed in the 1980s to increase its security to vehicles and more importantly the engine could only start after the car's computer had approved the code on the key. Still, Ignition Lock Cylinder is not perfect and it can wear out with time and one may have a hard time to turn the key or start the engine. Problems may stem from the keys and tumblers having some wear, or there may be actually be a problem with the switch itself. In terms of its ignition system, the Pontiac Fiero has both the conventional key manipulation for starting the car and new security aspects and this is the reason why this body is important for the proper functioning of a car.

Pontiac Fiero Ignition Lock Cylinder Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How do you remove the steering lock cylinder on Pontiac Fiero?
A: To unlock the steering Ignition Lock Cylinder step down the process by eliminating the negative terminal of the battery. Then, unlock the shaft and take off the steering wheel followed by the removal of the lock shaft cap which is usually done by applying pressure at three spots indicated on the cap with a small screwdriver. Place the shaft lock depressor and turn the nut till it rests a little on the shaft lock after this pull the retaining ring off the groove of the steering shaft. Also eliminate the steering shaft lock plate and the cancelling cam assembly and in addition to that eliminate the hazard flasher switch after pulling a Phillips screw that holds the switch to the turn signal switch. New The switch actuator arm assembly must also be unbolted, as does the turn signal switch assembly in order to get to the Ignition Lock Cylinder retaining bolt. Turn the three screws that hold the turn signal switch and ignore the turn signal switch wire harness connector that can be disconnected where it connects at the base of the steering column cover. Take out the Ignition Lock Cylinder retaining screw, rotate the Ignition Lock Cylinder to the On position and then all the way out. For installation of the Ignition Lock Cylinder, rotate the Ignition Lock Cylinder to the 'ON' position and then set it and fasten the lock retaining screw. Connect the turn signal wire harness connector and the wire harness again inside the steering column cover and plug it into the lower terminal of the steering column cover. Bolt the three screws as tight as possible for the switch actuator arm assembly before putting the switch actuator arm assembly in its rightful position with a tight retaining screw. Place the knob of the hazard flasher switch and tighten the Phillips screw for retaining it, next is the cancelling cam and the shaft lock. The steering shaft lock plate retaining ring should be placed on the groove of the steering shaft after which the shaft lock cover should be replaced. Last but not least fix the steering wheel and connect the cable to the negative terminal of the battery.
