Q: How do you replace the Transmission mounts on GMC Terrain?
A: To replace the left mount on a 5-speed transaxle, first remove the battery and battery tray. Install an engine support fixture and connect the chains to the lifting brackets on top of the engine, or alternatively support the transaxle from below with a jack and a block of wood. Unbolt the mount from the engine and chassis, then remove it, and installation is the reverse of removal with all bolts tightened. For the rear mount, again install an engine support fixture and connect the chains, or support the engine/transaxle from below. On AWD models, loosen the front wheel lug nuts, raise the vehicle securely on jackstands, remove the front wheels, disconnect the stabilizer bar from its links, and rotate it up for access. Remove the through-bolt from the rear mount, unbolt it from the frame, and remove it, with installation being the reverse of removal and all bolts tightened. For the front mount, install an engine support fixture, raise the vehicle securely on jackstands, remove the mount through-bolt, unbolt it from the transaxle, and remove it, with installation being the reverse of removal and all bolts tightened. For a 6-speed transaxle, loosen the left front wheel lug nuts, raise the vehicle securely on jackstands, remove the left front wheel and inner fender splash shield, support the transaxle with a floor jack, remove the mount bolts, raise the transaxle using the jack, maneuver the mount out, and installation is the reverse of removal with all bolts tightened. For the rear mount, install an engine support fixture, remove the rear exhaust manifold, raise the vehicle securely on jackstands, remove the mount through-bolt, unbolt it from the frame, and remove it, with installation being the reverse of removal and all bolts tightened. For the front mount, raise the vehicle securely on jackstands, support the transaxle with a floor jack, remove the mount through-bolt, unbolt it from the transaxle, and remove it, with installation being the reverse of removal and all bolts tightened.
