GMC Sonoma Distributor

The Distributor of GMC Sonoma vehicles sits as one of the crucial components that ignite the gasoline and air mixture inside the engine's cylinders through directing voltage from a single coil to each spark plug by using the distributor and spark plug wires. Progression over the years has ensured that better and more efficient designs of triggering mechanisms have taken the place traditional mechanical breaker points. Distributors in Sonoma vehicles are made up of shafts, gears, rotor and triggering mechanism that is enclosed by a distributor cap. These components collectively help in the right timing of sparks and ignition of the air/fuel charge in the cylinders. Moreover, the distributors in Sonoma vehicles include centrifugal and vacuum advance mechanisms in controlling the timing depending on the engine speed and operations. The distribution system also requires regular maintenance and replacement of anti wear items including distributor caps and rotors.

Each OEM GMC Sonoma Distributor we offer is competitively priced and comes with the assurance of the manufacturer's warranty for the part. Furthermore, we guarantee the speedy delivery of your orders right to your doorstep. Our hassle-free return policy is also in place for your peace of mind.

GMC Sonoma Distributor Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How do you remove and install a distributor on Chevrolet Blazer,S10,GMC Jimmy and Sonoma?
A: To remove the distributor, start by disconnecting the cable from the negative battery terminal. Remove the air cleaner assembly on HEI systems or the air intake plenum on EDI systems. Unplug the distributor's electrical connectors and remove the distributor cap. Mark the rotor's direction and the distributor's position in relation to the engine block. Remove the hold-down bolt and clamp, and take out the distributor. For installation without turning the crankshaft, position the rotor as it was when the distributor was removed. Lower the distributor into the engine, ensuring proper gear meshing. Use a socket and breaker bar to turn the engine until the distributor aligns with the marks. Install the hold-down clamp, reconnect the ignition wiring harness, and install the distributor cap. Reconnect the coil connector, tighten the hold-down bolt, and check the ignition timing. For installation with the crankshaft turned, align the timing mark on the vibration damper with the "0" on the timing indicator. Position the rotor between the spark plug terminals and lower the distributor into the engine. Use a socket and breaker bar to turn the engine until the distributor seats flush against the block. Align the marks on the distributor base and engine block, install the hold-down clamp, and reconnect the ignition wiring harness. Install the distributor cap, reconnect the coil connector, tighten the hold-down bolt, and check the ignition timing. For EDI ignition installation, align the timing mark on the balancer with the "V" notch on the front cover. Install the distributor, ensuring proper gear meshing, and check the rotor alignment. Tighten the hold-down bolt and install the camshaft sensor connector, cap, and wires as necessary. If the "SERVICE ENGINE" light comes on with trouble code P1345 after installation, the distributor may have been incorrectly installed, so repeat the procedure.
