A: To remove the compressor, start by discharging and recovering the refrigerant and disconnecting the negative battery terminal. Then, remove the air intake duct and air filter housing, followed by the drivebelt(s). For certain models, loosen the right front wheel lug nuts, raise the front of the vehicle, and remove the wheel and inner fender splash shield. Disconnect the electrical connectors, clean the compressor around the refrigerant line fittings, and disconnect the suction and discharge lines. Remove the compressor mounting bolts, detach the compressor from the mounting bracket, and remove it from the engine compartment. To install a new compressor, pour the oil from the old compressor into a graduated container and add the same amount of new refrigerant oil to the new compressor. Follow any included directions. Installation is the reverse of removal, ensuring to use new seals and tighten the line fitting manifold bolt securely. For certain models, tighten the wheel lug nuts to the proper torque specifications. Finally, have the system evacuated, recharged, and leak tested by a professional shop.
