Chevrolet Trailblazer Shift Cable Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How do you remove and install the shift cable on Chevrolet Trailblazer?
A: To get the shift cable off you first have to disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery, engage the transmission in parking gear and apply the parking break. Disable rear wheels so that car does not move backward. Clip the shift cable off any clip on the cable bracket on the transmission then unclip it from the retainer on undersides of the floorboard while also pulling of the cable away from the ball stud on the transmission shift lever. For 4WD models, disconnect the connection with a cable from the retainers of a transfer case. Follow the cable up to the grommet and using a screw driver, pry the cable up the grommet and out of the floor pan. Pop the shift cable ball socket off the shift lever ball pivot with the intention of disconnecting the cable, and then delete the driver's side console, floor mat and carpet. It is pulled up to have it disconnected through the hole in the floor. For installation reverse all the steps of removal pay great attention to the driver shift lever and the trans shift lever in Park position. Lift the small flap on the secondary lock cover and take off the secondary lock, put pressure on the two tabs of the primary lock and pull it up. When assembled the spring tension of the cable will cause the cable to expand, so take the end of the cable and snap it over the ball stud. If the cable end is inserted to far, the spring force should push it back to the correct position, and then align it again. Once attached place the primary lock down and make sure it is locked, then place the second lock over the primary one. Last check is to ensure that the transmission shifts smoothly into all the necessary gear ranges.
