By buying a new replacement part, you can save hundreds, even thousands of dollars in costly auto repairs later down the road.

Chevrolet Trailblazer Fuel Pump Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How do you diagnose Fuel Pump?
A: If your vehicle has insufficient fuel delivery, check all fuel lines for leaks and ensure there is enough fuel in the tank. If power is present and the ground circuit is good but the pump still doesn't operate, replace the fuel pump. For the pressure check, relieve the fuel pressure and attach a fuel pressure gauge to the test port. Turn the ignition key on and note the pressure reading. If the pressure is lower than specified, check the Fuel Pressure Regulator and fuel lines for restrictions. If the pressure is higher than specified, check the fuel return line for restrictions. If the pressure is within specifications, start the engine and check the fuel pressure with the engine running. If the pressure doesn't decrease with a vacuum applied to the fuel pressure regulator, replace the regulator. Finally, monitor the fuel pressure for five minutes after turning off the engine. If the pressure drops more than 5 psi, there may be a leak in the fuel line, a leaking Fuel Injector, or a defective pressure regulator or fuel pump module check valve. Relieve the fuel pressure before removing the gauge.
  • Q: How do you remove the fuel pump module?
A: To remove the fuel pump module, start by relieving the fuel system pressure and disconnecting the cable from the negative battery terminal. Then, remove the Fuel Tank from the vehicle and disconnect the fuel lines and EVAP line from the fuel pump module. While prying the locking tab out, rotate the fuel pump module retaining ring counterclockwise until it's loose. Carefully remove the fuel pump module from the tank, making sure to angle the assembly slightly to avoid damaging the fuel level sending unit float. It's important to note that the electric fuel pump is not serviced separately, so in the event of failure, the complete assembly must be replaced. If necessary, transfer the fuel pressure sensor and fuel level sending unit to the new fuel pump module assembly. For installation, clean the fuel tank sealing surface and install a new seal on the fuel pump module. Align the fuel line fittings with the fuel lines and press the fuel pump module down until seated. Install the retaining ring, ensuring it is fully seated and the locking tab is engaged with the slot. Finally, complete the installation by reversing the steps of removal.
