Chevrolet Trailblazer Alternator Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to remove and install an alternator in a Chevrolet Trailblazer?
A: You should disconnect the cable from the battery. Take out the drivebelt. For six-cylinder models, unbolt the air conditioning line mounting bracket at engine lift hook. Remove the right engine lift hook and alternator mounting bolts then remove the alternator from the engine. Disconnect electrical connectors from alternator. On V8 models, disconnect output wire and electrical connector from alternator. Remove mounting bolts and remove alternator from engine. If you are replacing the alternator, take the old one with you when buying a replacement unit. Ensure that new/rebuilt unit looks just like old alternator. Look at terminals-they must be of same number, size and location as on old alternator. Finally, look at identification numbers-they will be stamped directly into housing. Ensure numbers are one and same on both alternators. Many new/rebuilt alternators come without a pulley installed so you may need to swap the pulley from your Id unit to the new/rebuilt one. When shopping for an alternator ask about pulleys; some stores might offer this service free of charge. Installation is reverse of removal. Finally tighten up mounting bolts with specific torque values provided in manual. Install Drivebelt. Check Charging voltage to ensure that Alternator is working well enough.
