Chevrolet Tracker Wheel Cylinder

In Hydraulic Drum Brake System of Chevrolet Tracker vehicles, the Wheel Cylinder is as important as brake shoes as it applies pressure on the brake shoes and constrains it against the brake drum for proper braking action. Essentially it applies hydraulic pressure, which extends pistons situated inside the cylinder to push the shoes against the drum. It commonly has a central cylinder, two piston with rubber like seals and an expander spring, while modern ones are mostly made from aluminum alloy to prevent rust while the earlier ones were cast iron. Chevrolet Tracker Wheel Cylinders may sometimes wear out after some time because moisture in the brake fluid causes some level of corrosion thus decreasing the braking force. The most critical area that needs constant check-up is when fitting brake shoes because, new linings tend to force pistons deeper to the bore thus leading to leaks. Though, it is possible to rebuild these Wheel Cylinders, replacement is suggested when they are badly worn out for achieving the optimal braking in Chevrolet Tracker vehicles.

Each OEM Chevrolet Tracker Wheel Cylinder we offer is competitively priced and comes with the assurance of the manufacturer's warranty for the part. Furthermore, we guarantee the speedy delivery of your orders right to your doorstep. Our hassle-free return policy is also in place for your peace of mind.

Chevrolet Tracker Wheel Cylinder Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: What steps should be taken for overhauling a wheel cylinder on Chevrolet Tracker?
A: When an overhaul is called for, as in cases of fluid leakage or sticky operations, consider all the possibilities before starting the process. New wheel cylinders are available, and thus this what would otherwise be a technically challenging task is, in fact, very simple. If the decision is made to rebuild the wheel cylinder then make sure that a rebuild kit is obtainable in advance. As with all wheel cylinders, replace both at the same time rather than just one because they must always be replaced in pairs. First, safely and securely jack up the rear of the vehilce and set it on jack stands and block the front wheels. Disengage the Brake Shoe assembly and wash out all dirt and other material around the area of the wheel cylinder. Turn counter clockwise the bleeder screw and the brake line fitting next turn the two wheel cylinder bolts but do not disconnect the brake line. After that, remove the wheel cylinder from the brake backing plate and clean it while placing it on the workbench, ensure to block the brake line to avoid release of the fluid. If the brake shoe linings are contaminated with brake fluid, fit new brake shoes to the car. In the overhaul procedure, it is necessary to dismantle cups, pistons, boots and the spring assembly from the wheel cylinder body. To clean a wheel cylinder you should use brake fluid, denatured alcohol or any brake system cleaner, but should not use any petroleum products. Blow compressed air in order to remove a large part of the fluid and clear the passages. Where the cylinder bore appears to be lightly corroded or there are score marks then the marks should be rubbed out with crocus cloth; if the marks cannot be removed or if the bore is scored then the cylinder should be replaced. Paint the new cups with brake fluid and fit the component parts of the wheel cylinder so that the cups' lips are inwards. For installation, just place the wheel cylinder in its proper location and also tighten the bolts to the standard Torque. Fasten the bleeder screw and the brake line securely by fitting it / and thereafter fit the brake shoe assembly. Lastly, bleed the brakes and test the brake functions before taking the vehicle for to operate it in traffic.
