Chevrolet Tracker Steering Shaft Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How do you properly align and remove the steering shaft and universal joints on Chevrolet Tracker?
A: Turn the front wheels to the straight ahead position. Using white paint, place alignment marks on the upper universal joint, the steering shaft, the lower universal joint or lower flexible coupling, and the steering gear input shaft, marking the upper end of the intermediate shaft and universal joint, then marking the universal joint to steering shaft. Remove the upper and lower universal joint pinch bolts. Pry the intermediate shaft out of the steering shaft universal joint with a large screwdriver, then pull the shaft from the steering gearbox. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure, ensuring to align the marks and tighten the pinch bolts to the specified torque.
